How to Give Great Product Feedback
Want to help fellow makers improve their products? Here's how to give feedback that actually helps:
The Good Feedback Framework
1. Start with the Positive
Always mention what works well. This helps the maker understand what to preserve.
Example: "I love the clean UI and the onboarding flow is super intuitive"
2. Be Specific
Vague feedback like "it's confusing" doesn't help. Point to exact issues.
ā Bad: "The pricing is weird" ā Good: "The $29/month tier doesn't clearly show what features I get compared to the $9 tier"
3. Explain the Impact
Help makers understand WHY something matters.
Example: "The CTA button blends into the background, which might hurt conversions because users don't notice it"
4. Suggest Solutions (Optional)
If you have ideas, share them! But remember - you're not the designer.
Example: "Have you considered...?" or "What if...?"
5. Consider Context
A bootstrapped MVP needs different feedback than a funded startup's product.
What Makes Feedback Valuable
- Focus on user experience, not personal taste
- Think about the target audience
- Highlight potential problems early
- Balance criticism with encouragement
Remember: The goal is to help builders create better products! šÆ
